Floyd Mayweather Super Villain
Floyd “Money” Mayweather, in nickname alone, shows a propensity for stirring the pot via skill and marketing like no other. He is arguably the greatest boxer of my lifetime (prime Roy and Loma impress me more, but numbers are equalizers) p4p, and certainly raised his stock by going from “Pretty Boy” to “Money”.
Whether or not we agree on the potential evils of money is moot, his success in and out of the ring is that of legend. I remember when people watched baseball and Roger Clemens signed a 5 million dollar contract for 200+ days of work and the country being astonished. My how things have changed. Villain you say?
Super Villain in this context is more of a hat tip to his brilliance than a judgement of character. So, while no one cares about my money, I normally can relate as I don’t have a problem with most ways a man can make a living. Especially in a fair, zero-sum combat sport.
Mayweather is perhaps the best defensive fighter to ever live, and the fact that he’s as sharp or sharper at 40 as he was at 30 is a good sign and perhaps (hopefully) influential on the heels of ‘stand(ing) and bang(ing)’, which like ground and pound, sounds like a risky dark web search. Enough Philosophy on life, how about pugilism, shall we?
