Mike Tyson meets Frank Bruno in London 1987

Former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Iron Mike Tyson. Meets one-time opponent Frank Bruno while he is training in London, back in 1987. The meeting between two of the best of the world is indeed very cordial, you might even say very friendly. As both men were quite happy and quiet men in their daily lives.

At the time Bruno was preparing to face James Tillis. A fighter Tyson had beaten via unanimous decision a year earlier. Bruno would go on to beat Tillis via TKO, setting him on the road to a fight for the heavyweight championship against Tyson in 1989.

Later on, we get to hear from Mike as he gives his thoughts to the great Terry Wogan on British TV.  He discusses his thoughts on both Bruno and Tillis but offered no prediction on the outcome of the fight. Mike also talks a little about his own life and times and his rise through the ranks.

From his humble beginnings in Brownsville New York. To beginning his boxing training with Cus D’Amato at the age of thirteen. His winning and losing record as an amateur. And how he handles the pressure of being the world’s youngest-ever heavyweight champion. Mike also talks about his own experience sparring Bruno, when he was fifteen and Bruno was twenty.

The conversation between the two rounds off with some insight into what we can expect to see from Mike as his career progresses. Some fascinating footage and insight into the pre-Robin Givens, pre-prison. Pre the death of Cus D’Amato and the departure of Kevin Rooney from Tyson’s camp.

Before his inevitable fall from grace, his incarceration. and losing the mantle of being the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
