Former champion Ronda Rousey returns to the Octagon fiercely motivated to recapture the belt she pioneered. In a sport dominated by male fighters, former Olympian Rousey made her MMA debut in 2011. With the UFC president saying women would “never” fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championships. Just two short years later, she would be defending her bantamweight title inside the UFC octagon. Undefeated in her mixed martial arts career, Rousey continued to shine alight on the sport. But especially for female athletes who had always been in the shadow of their male counterparts.
Now fast forward two more years to UFC 193 as Rousey faced challenger Holly Holm. A fight she would go on to lose by spectacular head kick knockout. Signalling an end to her career as a mixed martial artist and the beginning of a new chapter in professional wrestling.
