UFC 203 Preview – Stipe Miocic vs Pride FC veteran Alistair Overeem / CM Punk vs. Mickey Gall – Breakdown / Skill Study
In the first of two fights I (briefly, in this case) preview, Phil Brooks aka CM Punk (+355) of WWE Super-stardom will be pitted against 2-0 hand-picked opponent Mickey Gall (-430). Due to the lack of film on CM Punk, and really on Gall as well it’s really tough to make any accurate predictions of what to expect.
I found Phil’s appearance at weigh-ins to be noteworthy, as he is certainly in the best shape of his life. There is also the fact that Gall comes from a smaller camp and seemingly had a lay-up for his last fight (no disrespect intended). I will at least break down why I think that to be the case.
Also noteworthy is that Brooks didn’t hit mitts at all during media workouts, and barely grappled at all. Not sure if coaches Duke Roufus, Cush, and Wanderley will have some surprises up their sleeve, but tune in I will.
In the main event, we have the hot potato of a title in the form of the UFC HW championship up for grabs as current champion Stipe Miocic (-135) defends his title for the first time against future Hall of Famer and “re-invented” Alistair ‘The Reem’ Overeem (+115). This fight I will cover the strengths of each fighter, beyond some of the obvious.
