Stephen Thompson

Stephen Thompson faced more than one setback at UFC 296, not only suffering his first submission loss against Shavkat Rakhmonov but also speculating that he may have broken his foot during the fight. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, the welterweight contender mentioned that he believes he broke his foot with a body kick to the elbow, cautioning against kicking opponents in the elbow.

Despite the potential foot injury, Thompson expressed his eagerness to return to the gym and resume training. The 40-year-old fighter, who turns 41 in February, has encountered a challenging stretch in his career, losing three of his past four fights. His recent defeats include losses to Rakhmonov, Belal Muhammad, and Gilbert Burns, with a TKO victory over Kevin Holland in between.

Thompson acknowledged an error in strategy as a key factor in his loss to Rakhmonov and pledged to show improvement in his next fight. He appreciated the support from his fans and emphasized the importance of following the game plan for success.

In the welterweight division at UFC 296, Thompson wasn’t the only one to claim a foot injury, as Colby Covington also mentioned hurting his foot in the opening round of his loss to Leon Edwards in the main event. Despite the setbacks, Thompson remains determined to return stronger and better than ever after addressing his foot injury and working on improvements in his game.
