Justin Gaethje Interview Project
Coming over from the World Series of Fighting, not too many UFC fans were sure how Justin Gaethje would do. Known for his brawling style or technical brawling as it is sometimes called.
Gaethje takes a lot of punishment in order to dish it out, in many of his bouts. Stepping in against a technical striker with a solid ground game like Michael Johnson, a veteran in the UFC. How would the former WSOF Lightweight Champion look?
With plenty of animosity during the build-up. Both fighters promised to win the battle decisively. And in what is sure to go down as one of the best fights in recent times. Both men delivered on their promise of leaving it all inside the octagon.
With some crisp striking and fluid movement, Johnson had Gaethje in trouble in the early rounds. And at one point looked like he would finish the fight. But it wasn’t to be and as Gaethje recovered his faculties. He went after Johnson with a renewed vigour, stopping him in the second round via TKO.
With his perfect record as a professional still intact. Gaethje now looks to the future and his next challenge at 155lbs. Fighters Project offers us a glimpse into a day or so in the life of “The Highlight” ahead of his UFC debut in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale on July 7.
This is the third of many short documentaries by FIGHTERS’ PROJECT which aims to put a spotlight every single type of martial artist from around the world.
