How long has this feud been going for now, honestly? Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier seem to be stuck in an eternal struggle, akin to that of the biblical Cain and Abel. Their first fight was back in 2015 at UFC 182 after a long and protracted build-up. The two finally got to lay their hands on each other in a five-round war. Ending eventually in a decision victory for the Champion Jon Jones.

Roll forward some months and the Champion gets into all kinds of trouble which almost lands him in prison. Which results in him being stripped of his UFC title. After overcoming his hurdles. Jones once got back on track and entered back into competition with a win over Ovince St Preux. He was once again ready to challenge Cormier, who in the meantime had become the light heavyweight Champion.

Jones vs Cormier Round One

In an explosive opening round, the champion and challenger came out all guns blazing. Jones landed his trademark elliptical kick to the knee of Cormier. Then at one point got Jones managed to get DC to the ground, the first time in his MMA career that he had been taken down. Jon continued using knees to soften up the body of Cormier. While the challenger attempted to stay in close and smother at least some of the champions weapons.

Round two and Cormier goes on the attack but is constantly stifled by Jon’s kicks. At one point he does manage to land a nice right hand but then ends up clinching against the cage. back in the centre of the octagon and the pair once again clinch up, as Jones use sharp elbows on the inside. This round turned into a real dogfight between the two opponents.

Round three and it’s more of the same as the champion tries to keep Cormier at distance with his kicks. Especially the kicks to the knee, which could easily do some permanent damage. Jon manages to poke Daniel in the eye causing a temporary stop to the fight. And when the resume lands a hard right kick to the body. DC tries a series of takedowns but is unsuccessful, as Jones takes the round.

Into round four and the champion lands some great head kicks, but are defended well by Cormier. Then a couple of minutes in and Jon manages to take Cormier down for a second time. With Cormier rising to his feet, clinching against the cage Jones gets Dc down yet again, this is crazy stuff. The fight continues in against the cage, where Jones keeps wrist control over Cormier. DC tries to make up some points, but its another round for the champion.

Jones vs Cormier Final Round

Round five opens up with a glove touch, then straight back to the action. As the champion tries to kand a head kick. Daniel goes for a takedown, but is stuffed, it’s a hectic pace and we are twenty minutes into this fight. Against the cage, Jones is controlling the right arm of Cormier and not letting him break free. Landing knees on the inside its all pressure from the champion.

Daniel manages to reverse the clinch, which leads to a takedown, but the champion is quickly back to his feet. Jones tries a spinning elbow which misses as once again DC clinches up. But its too late as the buzzer sounds and Jon Jones once again remains the UFC light heavyweight champion.

But the curse of Jonny Bones was to strike again. As he is suspended from the sport for using banned substances. Jones now once again looks to return against Cormier at UFC 214 and claim the title he feels is still his. Having never been beaten as the Champion, will DC hold onto his title against the guy who never lost as the Champ? We find out when these two-steps in the octagon for a second time on July 29th.
