Daniel Cormier Faces Stipe Miocic At UFC 241
The defending heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier faces the man from whom he took the belt back in 2018, Stipe Miocic. In the second time of asking DC will look to defend the championship against one the of the greatest heavyweight champions in UFC history.
Knowing one another well, both inside and outside the cage, this was always going to be an interesting fight. With Cormier being the former Strikeforce Grand Prix Heavyweight champion. Before going on to become both the light heavyweight and heavyweight champion of the UFC.
Round One Begins
In a relatively tentative start, Cormier lands some solid kicks and punches on Miocic. Visibly shaking the former champion and setting up a single leg, as DC gets a good grip on Stipe’s lead leg and lifts him over his head. Then slamming him to the floor and into the half-mount position. Cormier continued to dominate, landing some hard punches and riding out the rest of the round on top
Round Two
Daniel is getting off his shots again and seems to be one step ahead of Stipe. Grabbing the hands then landing some overhands and straight punches. It’s tactic he used in the first fight and it appears to be working again as though DC doesn’t respect Stipe’s power, walking him down and almost landing at will.
The pair are in close and exchanging blows, but Cormier is landing more consistently. Stipe lands some of his own but doesn’t seem to have an answer for Cormier’s swarming tactic. DC is landing the more solid shots, but he’s not having it all his own way either.
Round three
Stipe comes out of his corner looking like a fighter who knows he has to do something different. Now he starts to land more consistently but gets another eye poke from DC, that’s the second time! Cormier keeps marching forward as the two appear to be fighting in a phone booth. Not giving one another any space, its shot for shot up close and personal.
Both men are pretty tired at this point and Stipe manages to secure a takedown. But Cormier quickly pops back up and lands another combination on a worn and tired looking Miocic. They exchange some more shots, ending the round with a final flurry.
Round Four And Its done!
While Stipe Miocic starts the round with some pep in his step. Cormier now looks pretty tired and is taking some time to get back into this fight. And it now seems the former champion has a new tactic as he begins to land hard left shots to DC’s body. With the first few looking hard as Cormier winces in pain.
Stipe keeps pouring it on and is now mixing up his punches, body body head and Cormier looks to be in trouble. He’s backing up as Stipe comes in with some more combinations, landing a lovely right hand that sends Daniel to the ground. Stipe follows up and stops Cormier who is unable to reply, as ladies and gentlemen, we have a new champion.
