Countdown to UFC 189: Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald

Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald UFC 189 Countdown

It’s Countdown to UFC 189 as the welterweight champion Robbie Lawler¬†gets ready for his first title defence against Rory MacDonald. Both of these guys have met before and not too long ago. At that time it was Lawler who walked away with a close split decision win. Since that time MacDonald has been on fire and blown through each of his subsequent opponents. How will this title matchup play out this time around?

We go inside the fight camps of both co-main event fighters in the first the Countdown to UFC 189 shows. With both men being on fire in their respective recent fights, how will they look come fight night itself? Its the number one question on everyone’s mind as these two stars come head to head for a second time inside the UFC octagon.

In their first bout, Robbie Lawler won the fight via split decision and will no doubt be looking to put a definitive stamp on events the second time around. Rory MacDonald, however, is the guy who was meant to take the welterweight mantle from stablemate Georges St Pierre. But to date, the Canadian fighter has been unable to fully capitalise on the division now being without its former reigning champion.

Will this be the moment when MacDonald steps out of GSP’s shadow and takes the helm of the 170 lb division? This surely now is the time where he will put it all on the line against the veteran Lawler and take what he believes is his. As one of the pinups for the new wave of MMA fighters, Rory has personified this new athlete who trains in all aspects of the sport since day one. And against the Ruthless¬†he will need every tool at his disposal to get the win.

All the action takes place at the MGM Garden Arena for UFC 189, a card which will also see Conor McGregor and Chad Mendes fight it out for the interim featherweight title. A stacked card by all accounts with a huge night of the very best in mixed martial arts ahead.
