Conor McGregor Wants Small Gloves Against Floyd Mayweather
Mayweather boxing coach Jeff Mayweather discusses the new issue of Conor McGregor now being able to use 8oz gloves, in his fight against Floyd Mayweather. It’s something which Jeff doesn’t seem to be any bit stressed about. And believes it won’t make any difference to the outcome of the fight itself.
The interviewer says to Jeff that he believes Floyd originally didn’t want Floyd using 8oz gloves, due to his KO power. But it’s something that Jeff finds quite amusing. He talks about how Floyd has been in with Hall of Fame boxers and they couldn’t hit Floyd. He doesn’t see McGregor doing anything different and he won’t trouble him.
Even though Conor has been in there with guys who have kicked and elbowed him during fights. It’s the fact that Floyd will be 5 or 6 steps ahead which will make the difference in the fight says, Jeff. And as the fight progresses, we will end up seeing a more Arturo Gatti style fight.
Conor McGregor Wants 8oz Gloves
Jeff is of the belief that Floyd will handle McGregor in any size gloves. So he’s not in any way fazed by the decision to go for the 8oz’s.
The interviewer talks to Jeff about Conor sparring with Paulie Malignaggi. And that some reports have implied that McGregor is clowning his sparring partners during their sessions. Does Jeff feel that the team might in any way be overlooking McGregor? Jeff talks about Floyd deciding on the smaller gloves because,
“Conor has gotten under Floyd’s skin and that’s why he really wants to hurt him.”
He is adamant that the only surprising thing about the fight. Is whether McGregor goes out on his back or on his face. This idea that Floyd is not moving like he used to or McGregor’s movement. It’s not going to be Conor’s night. And if anything the gloves are going to be to Floyd’s advantage.
