Calvin Kattar || Boxing in MMA || A Brendan Dorman Film Study ᴴᴰ
Professor of pain Brendan Dorman is back with yet another cracking breakdown of top featherweight Calvin Kattar. The Boston Finisher has looked pretty solid since he came back to the UFC in 2017. With a record of 6 – 2 under the promotion and one of those losses being to the highly touted Zabit Magomedsharipov.
Kattar will be looking to build on his momentum with a win over the former division champion Max Holloway in Abu Dhabi. Currently sitting sixth in the UFC rankings, if he plays his cards right the Bostonian cannot be that far off a number one contender fight. But with Blessed standing in the way of his progress, it was never going to be an easy road.
So BD gives us his take on what Calvin brings to the table and what we should expect going forward.
“I started the fight with a lot of feints….when I had him (biting) reacting I showed the 3-2 to the body….” is all just snippets from a recent picking of the brain session in my conversation with young lion Calvin Kattar. Long time / OG fans likely thought the quote resembled something I may say, but the new generation of fighters are students.”
Martial Artists in droves the likes of which the world plain has never seen. I find this movement to learn and grow quite refreshing in today’s landscape (I’m not going to give anything private away and lose anyone’s trust).
A fellow Massachusetts resident, Sityodtong crew and 617 Fight Sports rep, Calvin Kattar has had an interesting career path. From Wrestling in High School to flying to Russia for his upcoming bout with super-hyped prospect Zabit Magomedsharipov.
Calvin has one loss in the UFC, a decision to Renato Moicano, and otherwise, you’d have to back nearly a decade for a split decision loss. Pretty impressive for a 31-year-old from Metheun.
The focus here will be on his hands or MMA Boxing. Not only is it fantastic, and it’s not his first martial art, there are differences between (western) Boxing, and boxing in MMA that he understands well and I want to demonstrate as best as I can via his last few fights.
Without further ado……and a special shout out and thank you to “Slippery” Pete Barrett, Lee “Loco Lobo” Gresh, and all my people in and around that side of the tracks. Enjoy, cheers!
