FRANK MIR Against BROCK LESNAR UFC 81
Remember way back at UFC 81 and heavy hitters Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar went toe to toe, or heel to heel you might say in what would be their first fight. Brock Lesnar entered the fight as the WWE superstar with a 1 – 0 record in MMA. Taking on the veteran and former Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir in one of the biggest PPV cards of all time.
How would Lesnar fair against the much more experienced Mir? And how would Mir deal with the size and athleticism of Lesnar? This finish has since gone on to become one of the most famous in all UFC history. Courting much controversy after the referee Steve Mazzagatti stood the fighters up when Lesnar held the dominant position.
From the getgo, Lesnar very much looked comfortable inside the UFC octagon. Shooting early and getting what amounted to a half guard position. It was not until the fight was stood up and Mir was given some time, that the dynamic of the fight quickly changed. One of the biggest fights, with one of the biggest stars and one for the sports history books at UFC 81.
