Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen 1 Full Fight
At UFC 117 we saw the middleweight champion Anderson Silva taking on trash talker extraordinaire Chael Sonnen. In what became Silva’s biggest test to date inside the Octagon. Sonnen dominated the action for much of the fight, dragging Silva into very deep water indeed. Sonnen managed to control the Brazilian BJJ black belt with his wrestling.
In the prefight build up, Sonnen was his usual vocal self, with some added spice. Realising this was the single biggest fight of his career, Chael poured it on. And I mean really poured it on! So when it came fight night, Anderson was locked and loaded, entering the fight with a chip on his shoulder.
And with a lot of back and forth in the first round, you could tell Anderson’s head was somewhere else. Sonnen was able to secure the takedown halfway through the first round and almost sank in a rear-naked choke. Chael managed to keep Silva on the ground and proceeded to land some nice ground and pound on the champion.
Anderson Silva Is In Trouble!
Going into the second Anderson came out swinging, but was almost immediately again taken down. and this is where Sonnen continued where he left off in the first. Pinning the champion to the mat and forcing him to defend the challenger onslaught. And round three of the fight was no different with Anderson spending almost the entirety of the fight on his back.
Early in the fourth Anderson did gain top position, but was soon reversed by Chael. Who again worked his ground and pound throughout the entire round. Then in the fifth Sonnen caught Silva with a punch, again sending him to the canvas. Where he jumped on the champion and continued to work his ground game.
In a fight which looked like Sonnen would win, it wasn’t until the dying seconds that Silva was able to secure a submission win. Watch this classic matchup of striker versus wrestler and the ending nobody saw coming. As these very two different stars of MMA as Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen went toe to toe inside the UFC octagon at UFC 117.
